Drink mint tea & fresh orange juice
The Moroccan national drinks simply taste heavenly at any time. No matter whether you want to start the day fresh and tasty, let your impressions sink in during breaks or are looking for a great drink combination with an evening tagine!
The mint tea is a green tea that is perfected with fresh mint and sugar . For Moroccans, this can't be sweet enough. So that enough foam is created, the iron jug is held at such a height when pouring that you think the waiter is going to spill the whole table.
The freshly squeezed orange juice does not need any additives and is highly addictive! With us every morning started with this vitamin bomb and mostly we also drank one or the other over the course of the day!
Try as many dishes as you can
Moroccan cuisine tastes great! Whether couscous, various salads, braised vegetables, dried fruits, meat or all the many desserts - there is something for everyone here and it will blow you away in terms of taste.
It is an elaborate culinary art, as the preparation of the meat, which ultimately ends up in the tagines, takes several hours. Lamb and chicken, which cook in one stock, are typical. The tagine (clay pot) cooks together with dried fruits or vegetables and is then served with the Moroccan bread. My tagine recommendation: lamb with figs, a poem !!!
Pay attention to your travel time
Marrakech can be optimally visited in spring or autumn. The reason is the pleasant temperatures. The fasting month of Ramadan does not seem to be the best time to visit for sightseeing.
Many sights were closed due to construction work , there were no street stalls with food and some restaurants did not open until about 8:00 p.m. / 8:30 p.m. in the evening.
Ramadan cannot be assigned to a fixed month, as this fasting month is based on the Islamic lunar calendar and shifts annually . So inform yourself in advance and take a look at our general Morocco travel tips for the travel time in Marrakech . 3 day tour from marrakech to fes
Buy a Moroccan SIM card
Since you are in Africa , you unfortunately cannot use the advantages of your mobile data from Europe, but hey no problem. SIM cards are given away by various providers at the airport. You can then “top” these in the corresponding stores . Of course, you can also buy a Moroccan SIM card in a store at any time .
The advantage is that you are mobile, you can google for cafés and restaurants on site and you can also use online navigation services instead of offline navigation.
We got a card from Maroc Telcom in Marrakech . According to research, they have the best network, which was important for our subsequent hike in the Atlas Mountains.
SIM card + 4 GB data volume for 10 days = 60 MAD / approx. € 5.50
Marrakech tip no. 1: Don't ask for directions
So far, these have all been tips that fall under the “ do it” category. Now we come to the things that you prefer to leave in Marrakech: “ Leave it” !
Some Moroccans benefit from your lack of sense of direction , poor cell phone navigation systems or from your ignorance . They kindly offer you their help, deliberately lead you in the wrong direction and ultimately want to get you out of the dilemma for a few dirhams.
